For years, Lake Worth Beach has been one of Palm Beach County’s most unique communities. It’s colorful. It’s artistic. It’s walkable. It’s historic. And unlike many South Florida cities, it still feels like an authentic beach town.
Today, Lake Worth Beach is experiencing steady revitalization — not through massive skyscrapers, but through investments in its downtown, restaurants, housing, infrastructure, and local businesses.
A Downtown With Character
Centered around Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, downtown offers independent restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, local boutiques, live music, community festivals, and historic architecture. Rather than becoming another chain-store destination, Lake Worth Beach has continued to embrace its locally owned businesses and creative atmosphere. The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) recently launched a “Find Your Flavor, Find It Downtown” campaign to promote its growing restaurant scene.
Continued Investment in Downtown
One of the largest current projects is a proposed multi-story downtown parking garage designed to increase parking capacity and support continued business growth. While the project has generated community discussion, city leaders view it as an important step in accommodating more residents and visitors.
More Housing Opportunities
Like much of South Florida, Lake Worth Beach faces housing affordability challenges. To help address this, the CRA received additional federal funding in 2026 to expand its attainable housing initiatives, intended to reduce homeownership costs for qualifying buyers.

Residents enjoy convenient access to Lake Worth Beach, the Lake Worth Pier, Bryant Park, Snook Islands Natural Area, downtown West Palm Beach, Palm Beach International Airport, and I-95 — a coastal lifestyle with easy access to many of the county’s major destinations.

Lake Worth Beach features one of the county’s largest collections of historic homes. Buyers can find 1920s Mediterranean Revival homes, historic cottages, mid-century properties, newer construction, waterfront homes, investment properties, and duplexes and multifamily opportunities. Each neighborhood has its own personality.
Festivals and Community Events
Popular annual traditions include the Street Painting Festival, holiday parades, live music events, art festivals, and waterfront celebrations — helping create the small-town atmosphere many residents appreciate.
Local Businesses Continue to Grow
Instead of relying primarily on national retailers, Lake Worth Beach has focused on supporting locally owned businesses. The expanding restaurant scene, cafés, breweries, and boutique retailers continue to add to the city’s identity.
My Perspective
Lake Worth Beach has always stood apart from many other communities in Palm Beach County. Rather than trying to become another luxury high-rise destination, it has continued investing in what makes it unique — its historic character, local businesses, vibrant downtown, and strong sense of community.
Final Thoughts
West Palm Beach is adding office towers. Wellington is driven by the equestrian industry. Singer Island is defined by its limited waterfront inventory. Lake Worth Beach is growing by building on its history, supporting local businesses, and investing in the places that make it unique.
